Paul Verweel

Paul Verweel (1951–2018) devoted much of his later career to sport as an athlete, youth football coach, administrator, lecturer, and researcher. He graduated from the Pedagogical Academy in 1974, earned his degree in Anthropology in 1983, and completed his PhD in the Social Sciences in 1987.

In 2000, he was appointed Professor by Special Appointment, and in 2003 he became Full Professor of Governance and Organization Studies at Utrecht University, with a chair focusing on the organization and management of cultural diversity and meaning-making within organizations. His inaugural lecture also marked his appointment to the Krajicek Chair at Utrecht University, established in collaboration with the Richard Krajicek Foundation. The foundation's mission is to encourage sporting activities in socially safe environments for young people living in neighbourhoods where opportunities are limited.

In addition to his academic career, Paul Verweel remained deeply involved in football. He was an active player, coached the D1 youth team, served as chairman of a football club, vice-chairman of the amateur football board, and was a member of the executive board of the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB). He also held the positions of Professor of Governance and Organization Studies and Krajicek Chair at Utrecht University.
